step 3 - sewing the main stuff together
take the big end of the big wool piece and fold under the edges, about 1cm of them. pin them down like that, so they stay put. it should leave just a small (1mm or so) edge which sticks out beyond the width of the smaller half of the wool piece. then take the piping you made earlier and pin the flap-side of that to the bottom of the wool you just folded over. make sure the rope part of the piping is right up against the edge of the folded wool. see pic.

  •

  • then, go get the other smaller wool piece and pin it underneath the piping, so that it covers up the flap on the piping and leaves just the rope edge visible. if this piece of wool is a little too big, don't worry about it, you can just snip off the edges later. the reason all this pinning is done in three steps and not one is that if you tried to fold under the edges and align the piping and add the under-side all at once, it would be a major hassle without each piece already held in its place.

now, sew it all together near the edge of the top-side wool. (the big wool part with the edges folded under) make sure the stitch is pretty close to the edge, at about 1mm. you'll have to go very slowly around the rounded part to make sure you're the right distance from the edge. you'll probably have to do one stitch and then lift the foot (while the needle is still in the fabric) to check if you're in the right place.

  •

  • last little step here is to sew a stitch widthwise across the middle of the strap, right along the edge of the part with the piping. see the finished pics on the next page for this.
